“I love what I do, and I’m looking forward to being not an ordinary broker but leading a group of extraordinary real estate agents, at Slyman Real Estate.”
Thirty-five years ago, Jim Slyman opened Slyman Real Estate and Auction Company.Today, his daughter,Laura Slyman Piers, follows in his footsteps, taking the helm as president of Slyman Real Estate.
“Real estate is in my blood,”says Piers, who notes that Slyman Real Estate is now a separate company from Slyman Auction, headed up by her father. Slyman calls the generational change at the real estate firm a “natural progression.” Accompanying the change in management, the firm now has new headquarters at 105 Center Park Drive, formerly known as the Thrifty Nickel building.
New signage on the building’s walls proclaims it as the Slyman Building, which has recently undergone extensive renovations. The new graphics adorn an updated, contemporary exterior of brick and stone. The property’s unique,four-sided sign on Kingston Pike near the Pellissippi Parkway intersection is upgraded with a fountain, and the real estate firm currently occupies approximately one-third ofthe building with plenty ofroom to grow.
“We opened this new office to grow and make room for new agents,” Piers notes, explaining that she is currently in recruitment mode for experienced agents. “Laura has been extremely successful,” says Slyman of his daughter’s first eight years as a broker for the company. “She is one ofthe hardest-working, qualified and capable agents I’ve ever known. She always has the best interest of her clients in mind, and that’s reflected in the fact that 90 percent or more of her business comes from referrals.”
Piers received her bachelor’s degree in marketing and master’s in business administration from the University ofTennessee. In addition, she is certified by the National Association ofRealtors as an Accredited Buyer Representative and a Certified Residential Specialist (a designation bestowed on only 3 percent ofreal estate agents).
She is one ofKnoxville’s youngest multimillion-dollar producers, having received the 2006 Diamond Award of Excellence from the Knoxville Area Association of Realtors. She is also one ofthe few female auctioneers in Tennessee.
“I love what I do, and I’m looking forward to being not an ordinary broker but leading a group of extraordinary real estate agents, at Slyman Real Estate,” Piers says.
She notes that Slyman Real Estate has the capability to facilitate auctions and that Slyman Real Estate will join forces with Slyman Auction on large projects. “We can help someone decide whether selling via the traditional MLS method or selling via the auction method is better for their situation.Whatever is needed in the real estate realm,we deliver,” she says.
Her husband, Paul Piers, owns Trinity Mortgage Capital, a full- service mortgage company that is on the cutting edge ofthe real estate finance industry (visit their Web site at www.TMCHome.com).In addition, her brother, Paige Slyman, has opened his own Slyman Real Estate office in Atlanta,Ga.
One happy client is Deborah Franklin, a physician at UT Medical Center, who recently moved from a condo to a 3,500-square-foot, four- bedroom home in Sequoyah Gardens. The home she chose was a spec home, and she says Piers helped her customize the home and handled all of the contract and vendor coordination. “She eased the painful process, she respected my time and went with me, room by room, identifying what was needed,” Franklin recalls. “I recommend her to everyone and anyone looking for a new home.”
Similarly, Joshua Whitehead, executive pastor of Faith Promise Church, compliments Piers’work. “She has an amazing knowledge of the area, she’s meticulous in everything she does, and she’s a super communicator. We always felt in the loop.” Piers and Slyman invite the public to visit their new office or to check out their Web sites at www.SlymanRealEstate.com or www.SlymanAuction.com.
